There is a renewed interest in Ascendant or Rising Signs in astrology. For many years, knowing your Sun sign and Moon sign was more than enough to get an idea of a person’s personality through Astrology, but in more recent years, a third element of a person’s personality has been added to the mix. That third element is the Rising sign. If your sun sign is who you are and your moon sign is all about your emotions, then your rising sign is how you present yourself to the Universe.
By astrological definition, a rising sign is the zodiac sign that is on the Eastern Horizon of your zodiac chart at the time of your birth. On your birth chart, this sign is the sign that will slowly rise to the noon position on your chart. This sign is how you introduce yourself to the world at large in everyday life.
So how does one find out their rising sign? Whereas some signs change depending upon the month you’re are born in (Sun signs) and others depend upon the day of your birth in the cosmic cycle (Moon signs), the Rising sign depends on the time of your birth. This sign is the reason that many astrologers ask for the time of your birth when they do your chart. The sign on the horizon of your chart can be one thing if your birth is 10 am and something totally different at 11:34 am. Most astrology apps or calculators will calculate your rising sign for you. There are charts like this one, that will give you a rough idea of what your rising sign is.

There are many astrologers and astrology buffs that will claim your rising sign is more important than your Sun or Moon signs in telling who you really are. Rising signs can be that bit of information that tells the public who you are and can even tell you about your role in the Universe. Rising signs are about more than just what your public persona is, they can also tell you about the themes and cycles of your existence, how a person reacts to the world around them, and the ability and potential a person is capable of.
