Your first thought might be: "Wait that last article just talked about Grounding, aren't they the same thing?'
Nope they are not, but everyone tends to say them together like they are and while there is much more talk about grounding, very few people explain that Centering is indeed a different, but equally powerful tool. It goes hand and hand with Grounding because it also deals with your personal energy and helping you get a handle on it.
Have you ever had one of those times or days when you felt completely spacey and pulled in a million and one directions? You can't concentrate. You feeling like a space case. This is when you REALLY need to center.
Grounding it getting rid of the excess energy that is not serving you right now. Centering is pulling your personal energy back into your center. Picture your Aura (your energy field) it has billowed out around you like a blanket in the wind. This is why you feel all floaty and spacey. Your energy is literally being pulled in a million direction. Which in today's world of constant stimulus from every direction should be of no surprise. Centering helps us pull that energy back into focus and our personal control.
It is another superpower that can help with stress and anxiety. Help you have better focus whether you are trying to cast a spell, complete that boring task at work, or just stay on task to get the the laundry folded.
When I first learned to center I would picture my energy floating around like that blanket in the wind, mentioned above. I would take a deep breath and start pulling the corners of the blanket into my center. [Around your solar plexus Chakra (between your navel and your diaphragm)] I would keep folding those corners in till I felt like that blanket (my energy) was folded into a neat ball around my core.
As more of an extrovert, it can be difficult for me to concentrate while there are people talking and doing stuff around me. Because of course, I want to be in on the conversation. I work in an open office...no cube walls even, centering helps me focus and concentrate, so I can stay working on the task at had. It helps me when I get excited, because my mind runs too fast and I can start talking over others. Again centering helps me pull my energy into check.
Again like Melissa mentioned in Grounding with practice you can do this in a breath, or a couple of breaths, depending on your level of stress. Together with Grounding these become the foundation--the cornerstone--to all other focus and energy work. They keep your energy body healthy. It may not make any of your problems go away, but together Grounding & Centering just might help reduce your anxiety and help you focus enough to better deal with them.
